The psychotherapist is responsible for providing effective, high quality care to adult and geriatric patients. He/she should display professional skills in psyc! ho-diagnosis, treatment planning, individual treatment, family treatment, and discharge planning. Additionally he/she is expected to function well as a member of the interdisciplinary team.

QUALIFICATIONS: A minimum of a master’s degree in counseling, psychology, social work or related field; current state licensure in one’s specific field. Effective overall clinical skills, ability to work productively and effectively, ability to function well as a member of an interdisciplinary team, and ability to represent program well in interactions with others inside and outside the facility. The successful candidate needs to be able to communicate effectively. Able to handle various interpersonal situations. Able to defuse potentially hostile situations. Able to handle long hours and stress and able to complete documentation. Required training in non-violent crisis intervention annually.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
1) Provides brief and/or long-term cou! nseling to outpatient clients with a wide variety of diagnoses! , needs and experiences to include (but not restricted to) issues with depression, anxiety, phobias, psychosis, bipolar disorder, history of abuse, life adjustment problems related to relationship, loss, medical problems, change of work demands, etc.

2) Demonstrates effective clinical skills to address the multiple problems, symptoms and concerns with which the client presents.

3) Participates in continuing education classes, workshop, seminars in order to meet the requirements of ongoing licensure and to continue to increase/update one’s knowledge base and clinical skills.
4) Provides family therapy sessions displaying knowledge of family therapy principles.

5) Provides timely clinical reviews (online, by phone or written) regarding diagnosis, symptoms, stressors and progress to clients’ insurance providers to obtain authorization of therapy sessions.

6) As the need arises, and with the request/consent of the client, provides a w! ritten summary of the course of treatment, diagnosis, and other pertinent clinical information requested for the application/renewal process for Social Security Disability benefits.

7) Provides brief initial phone interviews for potential new clients, schedules all client sessions, responds to all client phone messages in a timely manner.

8) Provides updates regarding therapy issues to Fairmont Physicians, Inc. psychiatrist(s), and/or physician assistant(s); seeks consultation with them when appropriate.

9) Demonstrates excellent customer service to both internal and external customers through positive communication, cooperation, and professional behavior.

10) Adapts to constantly changing healthcare environment by recognizing opportunities for improvement and embracing change to bring about improvements. Exercises independent thinking, judgment, and decision-making and accepts accountability and responsibility for decision and consequenc! es.

11) Complies with all policies, procedures, and related pr! otocols ad established by the department and/or organization.

12) Shows good knowledge of referral/placement process and available community resources.

13) Recognizes the essential nature of Referral Development. Effectively and actively participates in referral development process.

14) Provides consultation and referral services to individuals, families and agencies conveying a positive professional image.

15) Responds to requests from the community to provide workshop and in-services.

16) Participates in Fairmont General Hospital performance improvement in-services.

17) Participates in Fairmont General Hospital training annually in non-violent crisis interaction.

18) Provides feedback to Behavioral Medicine Director in regards to concerns, improvements, changes and general issues impacting the appropriate functioning of the office.

19) Functions actively as a team member with professional consideratio! n of other tem members.
