RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Supervise the development and delivery of Therapeutic Recreation, leisure activities, psycho-educational programming, adaptive skills training, vocational services and other therapeutic programs;
  • Develop and refine a communication process that facilitates the flow of information from pre-admission through post-discharge to occur in order to achieve timely, accurate and optimal results;
  • Assist in treatment planning as well as group and individual therapy;
  • Serves as liaison to Hospital Medical Director and all Clinical, and Case Management staff;
  • Responsible for the development, implementation, on-going oversight and supervision of services for adult, geriatric, and forensic population;
  • Provides support to the CE O, Medical Director and other staff in the development of comprehensive and effective clinical programs including therapy, nursing, psychology, case management, and social services;
  • Ability to interact and communicate with all levels of staff and customers, internal and external, to serve as liaison between clinic administration, medical staff, and patients maintaining professional demeanor at all time;
  • Experience with electronic medical records;
  • Develops long range strategic plans, periodic assessment reports, success objectives and other significant strategies and/or systems;
  • Ensures the accuracy, substance and timeliness of program/department reports, projects, schedules and other relevant work matters;
  • Assumes oversight responsibility for special program/department projects;
  • Ensures audit preparedness of electronic medical records, processes and compliance;
  • Recommends and directs the development and management of de partmental performance information, training and training standards;
  • Participates in monthly departmental reporting as required;
  • Ensure clinical documentation and ongoing management, and treatment plans are stated clearly, concisely, and legibly in electronic medical record;
  • Appropriately escalate areas of concern identified during clinical file reviews;
  • Be knowledgeable of all regulatory policies and procedures including Federal, State and hospital-wide practices, methods and systems to deliver excellent and compassionate care to the patients being served;
  • Consult other health care team members in collaboration with physician(s) and other clinicians to meet patient needs, while ensuring continuity of care;
  • Provides periodic evaluative reviews and/or in-house and external staff training to ensure that staff understand and continue to adhere to such standards;
  • Review and actively participate as requested in investigation (s) and plan of corrections for all State and CMS Federal Surveys relating to concerns, complaints and other site surveys in a hands-on, customer service, and professional manner;
  • Foster collaboration within and across WRS, Jr. Hospital with all employees, patients, community, State and Federal Regulatory agencies;
  • Maintain a clean environment to ensure patient safety; and
  • All other duties and activities that may be reasonably requested within a specialized psychiatric hospital.

ENVIRONMENTAL SETTING:

  • WRS, Jr. Hospital is located in Weston, West Virginia and operates under the direction of the WV Department of Health and Human Resources, was opened in 1994 (replacing the old Weston State Hospital);
  • WRS, Jr. Hospital is a 200-bed acute care psychiatric facility offering a wide range of psychiatric services to patients either committed to the hospital through civil commitment or, in the case of forensicpatients, ordered through the judicial system; and,
  • The hospital contracts with WV University, Department of Behavioral Medicine & Psychiatry, to provide medical professionals who provide clinical services to the Hospital (Psychologists, Psychiatrists, Physician Assistants, Pharmacists, Forensic Coordinator, and other staff as necessary).

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • At least one (1) year or more of professional mental health experience in preferably in a hospital.

EDUCATION/LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • BA degree or preferred Master degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or related field;
  • Certification of Therapeutic Recreation preferred.
