Physician Position Summary:
The Behavioral Health Pavilion of the Virginias â€" A service of Princeton Community Hospital

Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

The opportunity is to become employed by Princeton Community Hospital as a full-time Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (Psych NP) working at the newly renovated 60,000 square foot Behavioral Health Pavilion. Currently, there is 1 full-time Psychiatrist, who is the Medical Director, along with 2 Psychiatrists plus a private practice in the community who assist with call. There is also an employed Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner and 2 Psychologists in the program. This is a 64-bed facility which includes a 30-bed Geriatric Unit, 24-bed Adult Unit, and 10-bed PICU. The need is to expand to 3 full-time Psychiatrists, 2 Nurse Practitioners, and 1 Physician’s Assistant. This is a state of the art facility fully equipped to handle all inpatient and outpatient psychiatric needs. It has been designed and constructed specifically for psychiatric function and flow. There is also an on-site pharmacy.

There is a verifiable need for service in the community as nearly 50% of the psychiatric referrals are being sent outside of the Pavilion due to lack of physician support. The goal of the Pavilion is to become a “regional system that provides continual care on a local and broad scale basis.”

The position encompasses both inpatient and outpatient; however, both are performed in the medical pavilion. A typical day starts at 8:30 with a meeting of the treatment team where physicians, nurses, and social workers meet to discuss all the patients at the pavilion. For four hours in the morning you will attend to inpatients. This will be an average of 10-12 Patients. After lunch, four hours will be dedicated to the outpatient clinic where new patient evaluations are given 1 hour and med checks will be 3 per hour. There are 6 personal offices where each provider has their own private office to consult with patients. The outpatient referrals come from walk-ins, referrals from community physicians, and step down from the inpatient unit. There will be a half day each week dedicated to catching up on administrative work or additional patient follow up.

Call is shared amongst the providers, but there will always be physician back-up.

Financial offer and benefits:

  • $85K - $100K base salary
  • Relocation up to $7,500
  • Health/dental/vision/life insurance/disability insurance
