Byrd Health Sciences Center-Charleston Division (WVU-Char! leston) is seeking a new Associate Vice President and Campus Dean, due to the retirement of Dr. Clark Hansbarger. WVU-Charleston, the oldest regional medical education campus in the U.S., was formed in 1972 as part of a federal rural health initiative in order to expand medical schools beyond the traditional campus.

An affiliation with the newly formed Charleston Area Medical Center (CAMC) to direct CAMC residency programs was also established that year.WVU-Charleston houses divisions of the West Virginia University Schools of Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy and Social Work. The Charleston Division School of Medicine includes the departments of Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Pediatrics and Surgery. In addition, the WVU Health Sciences Library, the West Virginia Poison Center, the Area Health Education Center, the West Virginia Geriatric Education Center, and CAMC's School of Nurse Anesthesia and Office o! f Continuing Medical Education, among others, are also located! on the Charleston campus. The Associate Vice President is the chief academic and administrative officer responsible for the leadership and management of the overall clinical, research, and educational initiatives within the WVU-Charleston and in this capacity, reports to the Chancellor for West Virginia University Health Sciences.

As Campus Dean of the Charleston Division of the School of Medicine, this position reports to the WVU Dean of the School of Medicine.The new Associate Vice President/Campus Dean will lead the exploration of new models for teaching and clinical care. In conjunction with the Chancellor, the Associate Vice President/Campus Dean will act as a representative and ambassador to promote positive relationships and strong partnerships for the benefit of the WVU Health Sciences Center.
