The West Virginia University School of Medicine Department of Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry has an immediate opening for a faculty psychologist in their Division of Publ! ic Sector Psychiatry at the William R. Sharpe, Jr. Hospital in Weston, WV. The type of faculty appointment will depend upon education, training and experiences.
The individual sought for this leadership position shall have proven clinical and teaching skills. Responsibilities include:
1. Providing state of the art psychological services to the civilly committed acute and chronically mentally ill as well as the court ordered forensic population;
2. Collaboration with allied health care providers in the development of clinical programs;
3. Completion of assessments required for probable cause and final commitment mental hygiene hearings;
4. Teaching graduate medical, psychology, and social work students engaged in field placements at Sharpe Hospital;
5. Research in chosen areas of interest that benefits patient care.
Candidates shall possess:
1. Current West Virginia licensure as a psychologist or eligi! ble for West Virginia licensure under the reciprocity provisio! ns of the West Virginia Code 30-21-7b (2).
2. Standing in the field of psychology adequate to enable credentialing by the William R. Sharpe, Jr. Hospital.
3. Experience in the delivery of individual and group therapies, behavior plans and psychological evaluations sufficient to enable the independent practice of these services.
4. Familiarity with forensic services sufficient to enable reasoned clinical care.
5. Clinical teamwork experience sufficient to result in successful daily interactions with the patient’s multi-disciplinary care team and the mission of the William R. Sharpe, Jr. Hospital.
6. Familiarity with research design, execution, and publication.
7. Comfort and ability in teaching psychologically related concepts to both large and small groups.
8. An appreciation for the necessity of compliance with hospital policies and procedures.

William R. Sharpe, Jr. Hospital is a one hundred and fifty (150) bed fully accredited state psychiatric hospital, with construction of another fifty (50) forensic beds ongoing at this time. The hospital provides treatment to involuntary civilly committed adults with a variety of mental illnesses (about one-third of beds) and court-ordered individuals found incompetent to stand trial or not guilty by reason of mental illness (the remaining two-thirds of beds). Sharpe is a teaching hospital with students from various disciplines including psychology, medicine, and social work.
