The Behavioral Health Nurse Manager (Director of Nursing) assumes responsibility and accountability for the nursing functions, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for assigned departments of psychiatry. This position is instrumental to the overall functioning in the delivery of behavioral health care to all patients, is responsible for the clinical management of the overall environment and is recognized as a member of the management team. The Behavioral Health Nurse Manager (DON) adheres to the Hospital policies and procedures and Plans.
Responsibilities:
Manages Nursing personnel resources to ensure care is delivered to meet the identified needs of patients as determined by level of training, competency, and skills of staff assigned.
Orga! nizes workflow to ensure completion of departmental functions ! and utilizes time in a productive manner.
Ensuring the orientation and ongoing performance reviews of employees to further develop their skill and practices.
Participates in Quality Improvement programs designed to enhance current services, eliminate re-work due to errors, duplication of services, or services determined not to be cost-effective.
Ensures training and in-service of staff are completed and documented on new techniques, procedures, or equipment prior to implementation into practice.
Develops and implements policies, procedures, and supervisory decisions within the Nursing Department and Hospital as a whole.
Completes and submits documentation of required licensure, CPR, in-services, competencies, surveys, etc. on time, without lapse, and without further notification.
Requirements:
Bachelors degree in nursing with clinical specialty in Psychiatry or Behavioral Health required
Masters degree preferred
Current licens! e to practice as a Registered Nurse in Virginia or ability to obtain licensure required
Minimum of five years relevant experience in the care of the mentally ill and supervision of paraprofessional staff; assessment, planning, provision and evaluation of psychiatric nursing care to patients.
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Ability to effectively assess, plan and implement therapeutic nursing services in a multidisciplinary setting. Particular skill in assessment, considerable knowledge of nursing principles and practice, staffing, budgeting, personnel management, regulatory requirements and medical documentation; ability to mobilize and coordinate resources effectively. Knowledgeable about age specific needs of geriatric and adult populations likely to be served by the program. Knowledgeable and skilled in a wide variety of Behavioral Health theories, modalities, assessments, planning and intervention.
