Provides psychiatric and medical nursing care and consultation to consumers; functions as a mentor to non-medical staff and a liaison to external healthcare providers; observes and evaluates consumer‚s behavior; administers and/or oversees treatment intervention and medication issues according to treatment plan; applies quality assurance nursing standards.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Provides psychiatric and medical nursing care to consumers; administers medications and/or testing/procedures as needed, directed by medical practitioner, and oversees all medicatio! n-related practices.
Provides guidance and support to non-! medical staff.
Functions as liaison and advocate for consumers in interactions with psychiatrists, case managers, etc.
Performs record reviews and maintains quality assurance nursing standards consistent with the philosophy, objectives and policies of the agency.
Provides input and participates as needed in treatment planning
Monitors and assesses consumers as requested or indicated.
Responds to medical and psychotropic medication emergencies, assesses physical status, and administers first aid when indicated.
Assesses need for and provides education and training to staff and consumers.
Completes appropriate documentation and reports in a timely fashion and attends all required meetings and training.
Performs other duties as assigned, such as but not limited to, committee membership, company representation at selected functions, etc.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Ability to work effectively as a member of a clinical team.
! Ability to communicate with consumers, psychiatrists/physicians, co-workers, family members, case managers, and other community stakeholders in a courteous and professional manner.
Ability to generate clearly written documents in appropriate format.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and other professional standards of conduct.
Knowledge of professional nursing and behavioral health principles, methods and techniques in a psychiatric setting.
Skill in psycho-therapeutic interaction with consumers and staff and in assessing consumer behavior.
Skill in facilitation and training techniques.
Knowledge of and skill in using office automation software (keyboard skills) and copy and fax machines (or ability and willingness to learn).
EDUCATION/LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Arizona Registered Nurse license with directly related behavioral health experience BSN preferred, Masters degree may substitute for some experience)
Completi! on of applicable RN/NP degree program;
Current Arizona License as a! Nurse Practitioner;
Two years of experience working in a behavioral health or substance abuse setting;
POSSESSION OF, OR THE ABILITY TO OBTAIN, THE FOLLOWING:
Current and valid Arizona Drivers License and satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR);
Ability to type at least 25 wpm.
