Major Duties/Responsibilities

Research Clinical Coordinator (Psychiatry)

Utilizes problem solving methodologies to resolve problems that impact patient care or staff performance

Assesses and evaluates patient conditions r! elated to study participation using objective and subjective data sources according to investigational study protocol

Assists Principal Investigator with required activities involved in the conduction of the research study

Becomes knowledgeable of each research protocol to ensure that all activities are performed completely and correctly

Coordinates/schedules study patient follow-up visits

Performs specific testing as specified in the approved protoco

Tour of Duty: Monday-Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Please Note: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required for selection.

Basic Requirements

~ C itizenship. Citizen of the United States. (Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3g, this part.)

~ Graduat! ion from School of Nursing

(a) Graduate of a school of profess! ional nursing approved by the appropriate State agency, and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant. [ NOTE: See exception in subparagraph (b) below for candidates who are enrolled in a MSN Bridge Program. ]

1 . The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC), an accrediting arm of the National League for Nursing located at 61 Broadway, 33 rd Floor, New York, New York 10006 or call (800) 669-1656 extension 153 . The NLNAC accredits all levels of nursing programs. Additional information may be obtained from the NLNAC web site ; or

2 . The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), an accrediting arm of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN). The CCNE accredits bachelors and masters degree programs, and is located at One Dupont Circle N.W., Suite 530, Washington, DC 20036 or call (202) 463-6930. Additional information may be obtained from the CCNE web ! site .

(b) The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. In these programs, students are given a certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX and should submit this certification to VA prior to appointment. Students do not earn a BSN, but receive a MSN degree upon completion of course work. A copy of the MSN transcript must be provided to VA. Bridge programs that confer a masterÂ's degree also fully meet the education requirement, even though a BachelorÂ's Degree is not awarded.

(c) In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active, and unrestricted registration (see paragraph 2a(3)) will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing.

~ Registration

(a) Condition of Em! ployment. A registered nurse (RN) will have a current, full, active and! unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the U.S. or in the District of Columbia. The appointing official may waive this registration if the RN is to serve in a country other than the U.S. and the RN has registration in that country (e.g., Philippines). The RN must maintain a current, full, active and unrestricted registration to continue employment with VA.

(b) Impaired Registration. An impaired registration is a ny registration(s) revoked, suspended, denied, restricted, limited, or issued/placed in a probationary status. A registered nurse who has or ever had any such impairment to their registration as listed above may be appointed only in accordance with the provisions of chapter 3, section B, paragraph 15 of this part.

~ Education & Experience for Grades

Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of experience, or an ADN or Diplo! ma in Nursing and a bachelors degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of experience; or a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of experience, or a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no experience.

Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of experience, or ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelors degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years experience or a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years experience, or a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no experience.

Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years experience or Doctoral degree in nursing or related field and approximately 2-3 years experience.

~ Physical Standards. The physical requirements of this position include heavy lifting (45 lbs. and over), prolonged standi! ng (2-3 hours) and sitting (3-4 hours), frequent bending, walking (up t! o 3 hours), climbing (steps, ladder, etc., reaching (overhead), extensive/repetitive use of fingers, (both hands required), repetitive motion and stooping (up to 1 hour). The mental/sensory requirements include recall, reasoning, problem-solving, hearing (aid permitted), speaking clearly, writing legibly, keyboarding, reading, and logical thinking. Also, ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. Near vision correctable at 13Â" to 16Â". The environment's pace can vary from steady to a sometimes fast pace, requiring handling of multiple priorities, frequent, sometimes intense customer interactions, and the ability to adapt to frequent changes in a sometimes noisy environment. There may be the need to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to disease, illness and hazardous materials (3-4 hours at a time). S ee VA Directive and Handbook 5019.

~ English Language Proficiency. RNs appointed to direct patient care positions must be p! roficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).
