Reporting to the Clinic Supervisor, and working as part of a treatment team, the Mental Health Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will assess patients' mental and physical status based on the presenting symptoms and complaints and diagnose psychiatric disorders and mental health conditions.
- Write prescriptions for psychotropic medications as allowed by state regulations and collaborative practice agreements.
- Provide medicatio! n management including prescription refills and medication edu! cation to clinic consumers.
- Administer medications including those administered by injection.
- Monitor patients' medication usage and results
- Monitor the use and status of medical and pharmaceutical supplies.
- Consult with psychiatrists or other professionals when unusual or complex cases are encountered.
- Document patients' medical and psychological histories, physical assessment results, diagnoses, treatment plans, prescriptions, or outcomes.
- Interpret diagnostic or laboratory tests such as electrocardiograms (EKGs) and renal functioning tests.
- Collaborate with Clinic supervisor and, and other direct service staff to arrange laboratory tests as needed for medication levels, and urine toxicology for substance abuse
- Electronic documentation of psychiatric evaluations, mental status exams, and psychiatric progress notes to consumers enrolled in the clinic who seek services.
- Review and sign Individu! alized Treatment Plans as well as other documents that required a physician’s signature.
- Evaluate need for consumer hospitalization or other emergency medical care, as needed.
- Collaborate and consult with the clinic’s team for consumer care.
- Provide training to other team members on topics including clinic practice, medications and drug interactions
- Maintain a flexible schedule if / when needed to serve walk in clients
- Comply with all NYS OMH 599 regulations regarding clinical documentation and billing procedures
- A Registered Professional Nurse who is prepared for advanced nursing practice by virtue of knowledge and skills obtained through an accredited post basic or advanced educational program of study acceptable to the Board of Nurse Examiners. A Master's degree in nursing is preferred.
- Three years of nursing experience is required and two years of advanced practice is! preferred. Certification by a national nursing body is recommended.
- Must be currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in New York State and credentialed by the State to practice as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner. Prescriptive authority is recommended.
- Experience with outreach to underserved populations and direct service to people with serious and persistent mental illness.
